Please follow the below for an outline of class today!
1. Silent Reading of Independent Novels - 15min (Students have these with them or on the designated book shelf at the front of the room)
2. Word of the Day. Click HERE.
Have students copy this and file it in their Word of the Day sections.
For Gummies (one gummie each) they can give you an example sentence using the new word.
Gummies in teacher's desk. Max 5 sample sentences.
3. Review of 3 Types of Irony - this was from their notes given on Friday!
Something that is ironic is unexpected.
If unexpected by a character,
it’s dramatic irony.
If unexpected by everyone,
it’s situational irony.
If it’s sarcasm, it’s verbal irony.4. Group Work - on Ambush - pg 61 in Sightlines Text.
Students have already read this short story and answered questions on it.
Divide class into groups of 5-6. Hand each a large sheet of rolled white paper - these are on the ledge by the bay of windows. Hand each group a some markers. These are located near the large rolls of paper. Each group will fill out the answers to the White Sightlines 8 - Story Analysis - Group Assignment. Copies are located at the front of the room under the screen. In their groups students will write down on their large sheet of paper answers to Questions 1 through 6. All Question Terms can be located in their notes handouts from last week.
Give groups about 20 minutes to work. Allow each group 2-3 minutes to present afterwards.
Ensure all group members write their names on their Group Assignment Large Worksheet.
5. Students will then individually complete the Green Analyzing a Story Sheet.
They should check off Ambush at the top. Again all terms and explanations of these terms can be found in their notes from last week. This should take the remainder of class. If not - please have them write in their Freewriting Journals. These are also located under the screen at the front of the room on the left hand side. They can select any topic they wish or you can give one of your choosing.
Thank you.
